Travel Insurers Go Green
A new insurance scheme offers eco- friendly travellers the chance to give back to the environment and travel with a conscience.
Concerns that carbon emissions are reaching an all time high has put pressure on both the travel industry and holiday goers to find a solution to travelling without causing more damage to the environment.
A new insurance project, ResponsibleTravelInsurance.co.uk, claims they have found a solution for the green conscious traveller who is afraid that their travel is causing the number of harmful carbon emissions to rise.
“The answer for eco-friendly holidaymakers is not to stop travelling altogether, the key is to travel ‘responsibly’” explains Jonathan Buttery, Director of Voyager Insurance Services.

“We have created responsibletravelinsurance.co.uk to help people minimise the impact of their travel by maximising the benefits to local people and the environment.”
Many eco-friendly holiday goers have thought it necessary to stop travelling altogether, however the green friendly business are offering essential travel insurance which automatically gives some of the proceedings to Travel Industry Offset Scheme (TICOS).
The TICOS is an industry wide programme and includes the corporation of a range of tour operators and travel businesses. The scheme is devoted to offsetting and improving both the quality of the environment and the quality of life for local communities at tourism destinations.
The new travel insurance has been launched by Voyager Insurance Services with support by Elvia Travel Insurance International (ETII). The insurance will provide holiday makers with comprehensive cover for single-trips, long stays, annual multi-trips and European Vehicle Assistance.
Buttery highlights the industry is under increasing pressure to find a solution to the problem- claiming the green friendly insurance is both a simple and ideal solution.
With global climate change high on everyone’s agenda others in the tourism industry are also seeking active ways to promote responsible and sustainable travel. iStayGreen.org is a brand new social networking site for the green traveller.
The site allows members to write reviews on hotels they stay at based on their “Green” initiatives, and already features over 3,000 Green Eco-Leaf Rated properties.
