Estate agents are universally useless in my opinion. They claim a large percentage of all house sales as commission for simply putting a sign up and an ad in the local paper! It's money for nothing.

Selling my house. Up two weeks found a buyer already. Fee 0.7%.

I recently dealt with a very friendly and small group of estate agents in the Midlands who helped me sell my property in just a few weeks. I was busy making plans to relocate to Devon and I found that they took a lot of the burden of selling away from me. This was helpful and I was happy with the service they provided. It might not look like much work on paper but you are busy with other things it's nice to be able to hand something like the sale of your house over to someone who knows what they are doing. Not all estate agents are bad, then!!

I think estate agents are a necessary evil when moving house - can you imagine trying to sort everything out without them?
